Amadis Jamyn

 

Jamyn, Amadis (1540-93), French poet. Having studied under the leading humanists Dorat and Turnèbe, Jamyn became Ronsard's secretary and companion. In the 1570s he participated in the Académie du Palais and belonged to a group of court poets which also included Desportes. He translated parts of the Iliad and the Odyssey, and wrote amorous and religious verse.

Amadis Jamyn (1538-1592) was a French poet, a friend of Ronsard.

Born in Chaource near Troyes, he is known mostly for his love poems, but was also a good Greek scholar (he has translated Homer).
