Amasis I (əmā'sĭs), d. c.1545 B.C., king of ancient Egypt (c.1570-1545 B.C.), founder of the XVIII dynasty. He drove the Hyksos out of the Nile delta and pursued them into Palestine. His name also appears as Ahmose.
