Amatole is one of the 7 districts of Eastern Cape province of South Africa. The seat of Amatole is East London. Over 90% of its 1 664 259 people speak Xhosa (2001 Census). The district code is DC12. Amatole means calves, the name of the mountain which forms the northern boundary of the district.[1]
