Amazon Vine is an internal service of Amazon.com that was launched in 2007.[1] It is an invitation only review program that allows manufactures and publishers to receive reviews for products that are offered on Amazon.com. Companies that use this service pay for access.[2] Examples of companies participating and offering their products include Logitech, Harper Collins, and Walker Books[3]

Membership

Amazon has not revealed the criteria they use for selecting users and states that members are invited "based on the trust they have earned in the Amazon community for writing accurate and insightful reviews"[4] Critics of the program have voiced concern over the program's lack of transparency and the professionalism of its reviewers.[2]

Potential members of Vine are invited into the program through email or by a special link on the Amazon.com home page.[citation needed] Vine Voice members are not paid for their reviews. Amazon has stated that all submitted Vine reviews will be published regardless of whether the review is negative or positive.[2]

Vine members (also known as "vine voices") are allowed to select products at no charge from newsletters that are sent to them twice a month. Products offered can include books, movies, electronics, food items, and other sundries. In return, members are required to post reviews for 80% of the received items before ordering new ones.[2]

Vine Forum

Amazon hosts a forum for Vine Voices members only.[citation needed]
