Review

The packaging of this LP is not the best since not only is the recording date left off, but all of the personnel as well (although trumpeter Max Kaminsky's life story is told). Decades later, the personnel is still largely unknown, although chances are it includes clarinetist Bob Wilber; possibly trombonist Lou McGarity; Ernie Caceres on baritone; guitarist George Barnes; and Dick Cary on piano and peck horn, in addition to providing arrangements. The repertoire is excellent, for in addition to some Dixieland standards, there are three originals co-written by Kaminsky and Cary, Horace Silver's "The Preacher," and Fletcher Henderson's "Henderson Stomp." Kaminsky is in fine form throughout this scarce LP. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
