Amberley Castle
An 18th-century engraving of Amberley Castle by Samuel and Nathaniel Buck

Amberley Castle is in the village of Amberley, West Sussex (grid reference TQ027132). It is a Grade I listed building.[1]

It was erected as a 12th century manor house and fortified in 1377. It then had a stonework enclosure with high curtain walls, towers, a hall and a gateway and was used as a fortress for the bishops of Chichester.[1]

It has now been much modified and is in use as a hotel,[2] which is ranked as one of the Top 10 Castle Hotels Worldwide by Gayot.com.[3]
