AmBev (BM&F Bovespa: AMBV3, AMBV4 / NYSE: ABVC), formally Companhia de Bebidas das Américas (official English translation: "American Beverage Company", hence the name "AmBev") is a subsidiary of global brewing company Anheuser-Busch InBev and is the biggest brewery in South America. It was created on July 1, 1999, with the merger of two breweries, Brahma and Antarctica. The merger was approved by the Brazilian Board of Directors of Economic Defense (CADE) on March 30, 2000.
Creation of InBev
Following the creation of InBev on March 3, 2004, the company's remit as a subsidiary grew into North America, with Interbrew acquisition, Labatt and the name was expanded to its present long form.
