Ambraser Handschrift, or Ambraser Heldenbuch, a MS. collection of medieval epic poems made between 1504 and 1515 for the Emperor Maximilian I. Among its contents are various ‘Dietrichepen’ (see Dietrichsage), the works of Hartmann von Aue, the Frauenbuch of Ulrich von Lichtenstein, and, in addition, the only surviving text of Kudrun. Until 1806 it was kept in the Imperial Schloß Ambras or Amras, near Innsbruck, and since that date has been in the Hofbibliothek, now Nationalbibliothek, in Vienna.
