America Is Hard to See

Plot

From 1964's Point of Order until his death in 1989, filmmaker Emil De Antonio has been scrutinizing the whys and wherefores of American politics. The tumultuous year of 1968 virtually cried out for De Antonio's cinematic touch, and he disappoints none of his followers with America is Hard to See. In a manner that arose as much condemnation as praise, De Antonio views the events of that watershed year from the perspective of Eugene McCarthy's presidential campaign. An avowed Marxist, De Antonio makes no pretense at objectivity; the King and Kennedy assassinations, and the disaster at the Chicago Democratic Convention, are depicted as by-products of American groupthink, rather than aberrations.
