While many of America's wealthiest residents often had homes that offered many of the amenities of the best resorts, they still enjoyed getting away to other locales. This A&E program features some of the fanciest resorts that attracted America's richest and most influential citizens in the 19th century. Milton Hershey, known for his successful chocolate company, even decided to create a top-notch hotel himself after recognizing the local need for one. The Hotel Hershey has 235 rooms and was built in the 19th century Mediterranean style, featuring beautiful mosaic tiles and lovely outdoor fountains. Of equal if not greater elegance is the Hudson Valley's Mohonk Mountain House that sits in stunning outdoor surroundings and has achieved national historic landmark status. West Virginia has its own luxurious playground for the wealthy called Greenbrier, located in the Allegheny Mountains. As viewers discover, its golf courses and numerous other outdoor activities draw many visitors each year. ~ Elizabeth Smith, Rovi
