The steady march of Robert E. Lee northward was to culminate in the single bloodiest day in American military history, the Battle of Antietam. On September 17, 1862, Lee's outnumbered forces met those of George B. McClellan, and although McClellan's troops had prior knowledge of Lee's plans, they were unable to take advantage of the situation. America's Civil War: 1862 -- Antietam, The Rebels Strike North is an account of the movements of Lee into Maryland, and of McClellan's attempts to repel the Southern forces. It could have been the turning point of the war, but neither side could claim a victory. ~ Alice Day, Rovi
