Review

An interesting collection of classic folk performances that focus on jail and chain gangs. While most of these tracks are readily available elsewhere, the continuity contained in the themes of the songs makes this collection more desirable than the previous American Folksay, Vols. 1-4. Highlights of the 29 tracks include "Take This Hammer" (Leadbelly), "Hobo Bill" (Cisco Houston), "Stack-O-Lee" (Woody Guthrie), and "When the Train Comes Along" (Gary Davis and Sonny Terry). ~ Al Campbell, Rovi
