A&E, takes an up-close look at the concept of the television talk show, from its early days in black-and-white to its present-day state of trash and hype. Narrated by
American Justice host and producer Bill Kurtis, this episode heads back to the beginnings of network TV and how the talk show first came to be. As times changed, so did the format of talk shows. In the 1980s, talk shows became more sensitive and friendly, corresponding with the rise in popularity of talk show entrepreneur
Oprah Winfrey. In the 1990s, talk shows took a trashy turn into the scandalous with the rise in popularity of shows such as Jenny Jones, Jerry Springer, and Ricki Lake.
