Plot

A&E relives one of the most frightening weekends in Florida history in American Justice: Murder in a College Town. In the summer of 1990, students were flooding into Gainesville to begin another semester. Emotions ran high as parents said goodbye to their children and new relationships began to form. For five young people, their first week back would also be their last. Over the course of just 48 hours, four women and one man were murdered and mutilated in their own apartments. But as quickly as they started, the killings stopped and despite an initial panic period, college life began to return to normal. It helped that police claimed to have found the man responsible. But, it would turn out that he was innocent and the real criminal was still at large. When police finally captured Daniel Rolling, he confessed to the twisted rampage and another in Shreveport that resulted in three deaths. Rolling was already wanted for the murder of his father. A&E remembers that tragic weekend with interviews of lawyers involved in the case and the serial killer himself. ~ Sarah Ing, Rovi
