A&E details a sordid case of murder, rape, and escape in American Justice: The California Killing Field. When Leonard Lake was arrested for carrying an illegal firearm, police had no idea of the past behavior he was concealing. Lake would not live to defend his actions either. After interrogation for the petty crime, the bearded ex-Marine swallowed two cyanide capsules which eventually led to his demise. Immediately, the search began for Lake's partner, Charles Ng, who had fled the scene of the arrest. The police investigation would lead to the discovery of a backwoods bunker and the buried bodies of 12 men, women, and children. It revealed videos showing the torture and rape of two women. Lake's own diary implied the two planned on starting a post-apocalyptic commune with women serving as sex slaves. The bunker even had its own incinerator. Ng was soon apprehended in Canada where he avoided extradition for six long years during which he learned every law loophole in the book. He was finally sentenced to death in America, but only after delay after delay in a clever ploy for time. Through detailed analysis, A&E documents this disturbing two-man killing force. ~ Sarah Ing, Rovi
