One of a handful of non-NASCAR programs aired by cable's Speed Vision network, the weekly, half-hour American Muscle Car was also one of that network's highest-rated programs. Each episode featured one of more of "Detroit's finest muscle machines"--that is, the automobiles which not only captured the imagination of racing aficionados when they originally rolled off the assembly line, but also proved the most popular to those who enjoyed restoring vintage cars. Covering a period from the mid-1960s to the early 1970s, the series spotlighted such classics as the Corvette, the Camaro, the Thunderbolt, the Barricuda, the Pontiac GTO, the El Camino, the Dodge Charger, the Buick Regal and the Plymouth Roadrunner, detailing the "life" of each vehicle in loving detail. Offering an average of 12 episodes per season, American Muscle Car premiered September 1, 1998. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
