The American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute (AWCI) is a not-for-profit 'trade association' based in the United States that is dedicated to the advancement of the modern watch industry. Horology is the study of time keeping devices. AWCI caters to the needs of industry by providing educational and technical services which promote the repair of modern timepieces. AWCI has members throughout the world, though the organization's membership has declined steeply in recent years, and works with major manufacturers and retail stores to further the goals of the major watch manufacturers.
Continuing education and certification in certain areas of watchmaking and clockmaking are offered by AWCI. The emphasis of the AWCI is on the repair of modern, luxury-brand watches, and they have close financial ties with major watch manufacturers. They currently offer no education, training or certification in vintage watch repair. A monthly magazine, Horological Times, is the official publication of AWCI. Books and videos on various horological topics are available for sale to everyone and for rent by its members.
