Amhlaoibh Ó Súilleabháin

Ó Súilleabháin, Amhlaoibh (1780-1838), author of the first known diary in Irish; born in Killarney. His family moved to Co. Kilkenny, then largely Irish-speaking, when his father, a hedge school-master, settled there. From 1827 to 1835 he kept a diary, It reflects the tastes and interests of a cultured and lively mind, full of intellectual curiosity.
