Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT) (Persian: دانشگاه صنعتی امیرکبیر Dāneshgāh-e San'ati-ye Amirkabir), formerly called the Tehran Polytechnic[2], is a public, research university located in Tehran, Iran. AUT is one of the most prestigious universities and the first established technical university in Iran, referred to as "Iran's Mother Industrial University"[2]. AUT ranks first in industry-related activities in Iran[2].
The university was founded by Habib Nafisi in 1958, during the reign of the Pahlavi dynasty. Originally named the Tehran Polytechnic, it began its activities with five engineering departments. Following the 1979 Iranian Revolution, Polytechnic was renamed after the famed Iranian prime minister Amirkabir (1807–1852). With its expansion, the university now boasts fifteen science and engineering departments, and two other affiliated centers, located in Bandar Abbas and Mahshahr[3]. There are currently around 9,100 students enrolled in the undergraduate and graduate programs. AUT has 480 full-time academic faculty members and 550 administrative employees. This gives AUT the highest staff-to-student ratio among the country's universities. The executive branch consists of four departments which receive active participation from various councils in planning and administering affairs.
AUT has signed mutual agreements with international universities for research and educational collaboration. There is a joint program between AUT and the University of Birmingham.[4]
AUT is one of the leading universities in E-Learning systems in Iran which has begun its activities in 2004.
Amirkabir University is the pioneer of sustainable development in Iran[5] and established the AUT sustainability Office on July 2011. The activities of the Sustainability Office contribute to AUT's campus by reducing energy consumption, costs, and emissions, and also student coursework, volunteer opportunities for students, as well as research and education academic activities on sustainable development.

The initial establishment and formation of AmirKabir University of Technology (AUT) dates back to October 1956 by Eng. Habib Nafisi(حبیب نفیسی). The initial core of the university was, then, formed under the name Tehran Polytechnic in order to expand the activities of two technical institutes of those times: Civil Engineering Institute and the Higher Art Center. After Eng. Habib Nafisi, the founder of Tehran polytechnic, Dr. Abedi became the president of the university for a few months until Dr. Mohammad Ali Mojtahedi, the principal at the renowned Alborz Highschool, was appointed president of AUT early in 1963. Dr. Mojtahedi was of great service to AUT and it can be claimed that the university owes to him more than half of its fame and honor. It is worth noting that the sacrifices of Mr. Nafisi through the painstaking process of establishing the university and the altruism of Dr. Mojtahedi in elevating the scientific level of AUT are all of great importance. Among the accomplishments of Dr. Nafisi, in addition to elevating the scientific prestige of AUT, construction of a central amphitheater,a dining area and a sport ground as well as completing different faculties can be mentioned.
Presently the university has grown to an elite school of science and engineering education with the capacity of about 10,000 students in 35 undergraduate majors, around 90 M.Sc. majors and 36 Ph.D. and post-doc programs.Accepting in all sections of education in AUT as Bachelor Degree, Master Degree and Ph.D. is too competitive and only top students can reach to this honor.
The main campus of AmirKabir University of Technology (AUT) is in Tehran, Iran. It is located close to the junction of Enghelab Street and Vali Asr Street in center of Tehran City. Many students access to subway line by Vali Asr Station where is near the University Campus.
AUT has 15 faculties as electrical engineering, medical engineering, polymer engineering, mathematics and computer science, chemical engineering, industrial engineering, civil and environmental engineering, physics and nuclear engineering, computer and information technology, mechanical engineering, mining and metallurgical engineering, textile engineering, petroleum engineering, ship engineering, and aeronautics engineering . Also AUT has a well-equipped educational site in Bandar Abbas and an academic unit in Mahshahr . University Departments Websites Are as,
