Review

The Poussette-Dart Band slides into blandness with this low-key effort. What edginess and humor their debut album contained has mostly been dissipated in favor of smoothly agreeable arrangements and noncommittal lyrics. Comparisons with the Eagles ("I Don't Know") and James Taylor ("Fall on Me") are clearly discernible here. A few songs do infuse a little variety or interest, however. The title track is a goofy country-inspired number with mildly humorous lyrics. "Who's That Knockin'" is a curious medium-tempo excursion into funk stylings. And "Yaicha," easily the album's best song, is a brief and lovely singer-songwriter number with an attractive melody and intriguing chord changes. But in general, this record is recommended mostly to committed fans of this band. ~ David Cleary, Rovi
