Éamonn an Chnuic

Celtic Mythology: Éamonn an Chnuic

[Irish, Edmund/ Éamonn of the Hill]

Name in folk-tale and song for Edmund Ryan, a 17th-century Tipperary rapparee or patriotic bandit, whose reputation for daring outlived him. The rapparees were men evicted from their lands during the Cromwellian plantation who plundered those who had robbed them of their inheritance.
