Amor in huom gentil is a polyphonic work by the fourteenth-century Italian composer Francesco Landini (c. 1325-1397). It is an example of the Italian dance-form known as the ballata, and is written for three voices, a tenor, countertenor and a cantus. It is set in the French manner, with the cantus only having a text and the countertenor and tenor being untexted. Because of its French text setting, and its forward-looking three-part contrapuntal setting, this work is tentatively dated as a later work of Landini. Amor in huom gentil is catalogued as No. 50 (141). ~ David Cashman, Rovi
