the proprietary name for a series of mixtures of carrier ampholytes, which between them span the pH range 2.5 — 11. They consist of polyamino-polycarboxylic acids formed by reaction between acrylic acid and various polyethylene-polyamines. Each mixture contains a large number of ampholyte species of slightly differing isoelectric points. The mean and maximum apparent molecular masses are approximately 400 and 500 respectively. They are used in isoelectric focusing. They set up a pH gradient through the electrophoretic medium, and components being separated equilibrate to a point in the medium corrresponding to their isoelectric point.
