Plot

Having returned from Germany where he learned techniques of German expressionism, V. Shantaram puts his newfound knowledge to work with this classic of early Indian sound cinema. The film opens with a sinister religious cult dedicated to the goddess Chandika convening for one of their bloody rituals. Wise King Krantivarma (Varde) disapproves of the sect and bans human and animal sacrifice for its numerous religious observances. The cult's fanatical priest (Chandramohan) is enraged and orders the witless Vishwasgupta (Kelkar) to assassinate the sovereign. As he completes his mission, the two-faced priest turns his charge in. Later, Vishwasgupta's son, Madhavgupta (Sureshbabu Mane), and daughter Sumitra (Shanta Apte) along with the princess evidentially vanquish the priest. ~ Jonathan Crow, Rovi
