Review

Amy Grant's debut album shook the world of contemporary Christian music with a fresh new voice that would quickly become a fixture at the top of the gospel charts. "Beautiful Music," "Old Man's Rubble," and "What a Difference You've Made in My Life" laid the groundwork for the onslaught of hits Grant would produce in the years to come. Before she became a pop star, Grant would reign as the queen of contemporary Christian music for a number of years. ~ Michael B. Smith, Rovi

Amy Grant is the first album by then-teenage Christian singer Amy Grant, released in 1977 on Myrrh Records.

Amy Grant, although today considered a modest record success, was probably one of the biggest Christian album releases ever when it was issued in 1977. At that time, CCM (or as it was more commonly called, Inspirational music) was a tiny subgenre, sold exclusively at Christian bookstores. But the album was a breakthrough in terms of the Christian music market of the day, selling 50,000 copies in one year. Three songs from the album made Top Ten Christian radio airplay: "Old Man's Rubble," "Beautiful Music," and "What A Difference You've Made." (The latter track was made more famous by country singer Ronnie Milsap, as "What A Difference You've Made In My Life.")
