The Amy Winehouse Foundation is a registered charity which was set up in memory of English singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse. The foundation was launched on September 14, 2011 which would have been Winehouse's 28th birthday just a couple of months following her death in July 2011.
Its aim is to support charities worldwide which give help and support to young people in need for whatever reason whether it be through poor health, a disadvantaged background or suffering from addiction. The singer had well-publicised problems with addiction which she battled in the latter years of her life.
The foundation was set up by Winehouse's father, Mitch Winehouse. It has pledged to award at least £500,000 in grants in its first year.
Sales of the Lioness: Hidden Treasures album, which was released in late 2011, raised £1 per album sold for the Amy Winehouse Foundation. The album entered the UK Album Chart at number one.
Other fundraising activities include the auction of the iconic polka dot chiffon dress worn by Winehouse on the cover of her critically acclaimed second album Back to Black. £36,000 was the winning bid.
Projects supported include the donation of £10,000 to a children's hospice in Essex, England.
