Mel Tormé and pianist George Shearing had recorded together twice for Concord prior to this live set; both dates (An Evening with George Shearing & Mel Tormé and Top Drawer) gave Shearing top billing. For their third outing, the dynamic duo are up to their usual high level, with assistance from bassist Don Thompson and drummer Donny Osborne.
