Biography

Brought to the attention of the indie pop world by the then darlings of the genre, Tegan and Sara, An Horse hailed from Brisbane, Australia, and was originally envisioned as a solo vehicle for former Iron On member and record shop employee Kate Cooper. Having made a favorable impression on the Canadian indie duo, Cooper -- and eventual bandmate Damon Cox -- soon found themselves sharing a bill with Tegan and Sara on their 2008 American tour. 2008 would also see the oddly titled group release a well-received EP, Not Really Scared. Coupled with the touring slot for an already hot act, An Horse soon caught fire, and their popularity in both Australia (where they toured with Death Cab for Cutie) and the United States was going through the roof. In 2009, An Horse unveiled their debut album, Rearrange Beds. ~ Chris True, All Music Guide

An Horse is a two-person indie pop[2] band from Brisbane, Australia, comprising Kate Cooper of Iron On on vocals and guitar and Damon Cox of Intercooler on drums.[1] In 2008 they toured the United States as an opening act for Tegan and Sara, prior to the release of their first album. In August 2008, they opened for Death Cab for Cutie for their Australian tour.

To date An Horse has completed an EP, Not Really Scared, and an album, Rearrange Beds. Both were produced by ARIA award-winning Australian producer Magoo (Midnight Oil, Regurgitator), at Applewood studios in Queensland. Rearrange Beds was available on iTunes as of December 8, 2008, and is due to be released in stores on March 17, 2009.[4] Currently on their 2009 North American tour, An Horse will continue to play as a supporting act for Tegan and Sara in Canada in 2010.[5]

Career

Kate Cooper and Damon Cox met while working at an independent record store called Skinny's. They began making music together in 2007, and set up a PA in the store, where they would rehearse afterhours. Prior to that, Kate had played the odd solo show. "The songs were vastly different but I was using the name An Horse," recalls Kate.[6] Tegan and Sara met Cooper and Cox while touring Australia, after doing a promotional appearance at Skinny's. After playing together at several Australian shows, Sara invited An Horse along for their US tour. The tour was An Horse's first time playing in the United States.[7] The band has quickly gained popularity, in part due to this tour, leading reviewers to note that they "came out of nowhere".[8] In February 2009, the pair relocated indefinitely to the US to focus on touring.

An Horse is currently touring with the Silversun Pickups. They played their first show on October 2, 2009 in Gainesville, FL. There last show on the Tour was in Peoria,IL

An Horse has generally received favorable reviews for their first EP, Not Really Scared.[8][9]

Their song "Postcards" was used in a TV ad for the Mercedes-Benz CLC-Class in 2008.[10]

On March 12, 2009 An Horse made their first ever television appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman performing 'Camp Out'.
