In the cycle of hair growth, the period of active production by the hair follicle.

  • a. defluxion, a. effluvium — loss and abnormal formation of hair that is in the anagen stage of growth; occurs with antimitotic drugs, endocrinopathies, metabolic disorders.
  • a.–telogen ratio — a comparison of the numbers of anagen and telogen hair bulbs, which is an indication of the percentage of active hair follicles. Normally, the majority should be in anagen.
