Cloots, Anarcharsis (pseud. of Jean-Baptiste du Val de Grâce, baron de Cloots) (1755-94). Prussian in origin, he espoused the philosophe cause, was made a French citizen by the Revolutionary Convention Nationale, and expounded a doctrine of cosmopolitanism and the cult of reason in writings such as L'Orateur du genre humain (1791) and La République universelle (1792). He was executed with the Hébertistes.
