Anbumani Ramadoss (Tamil: அன்புமணி ராம்தாஸ்) was born on October 8 1968 in Pondicherry. He is the Cabinet Minister in Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.He was elected to the Parliament as a member of the Rajya Sabha in 2004.He was a student of Madras Medical College and did his MBBS.He is a doctor by profession. He belongs to the Pattali Makkal Katchi founded by his father Dr S. Ramadoss. He married Sowmiya, daughter of Krishnasamy, Tamil Nadu Congress Leader, on August 28 1991. He has 3 daughters. He is the President of an environmental group called Pasumai Thayagam (Green Motherland).[1]
Controversies
His dispute with director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Prof. P Venugopal, has led to some controversy: he has been called by a fellow MP from the Congress "the minister for Venugopal affairs"; another Congressman (MP) has compared his actions to those of "a bull in a china shop," believing that he had damaged the image of India's premier medical institute.[2]
His partymen demonstrated on 7th May, 2007 objurgating an opinion poll by a Tamil daily which reportedly gave a "poor" ranking to Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss of PMK among the Central ministers from Tamil Nadu.[3]
