Rites and Rituals explores the meaning of these ceremonious acts which provide a connection to human past. Also explored are the possible repercussions of the loss of rituals in modern life. This documentary unveils the power of rites, from Catholic sacraments to the tattooing traditions of African tribes. In doing so, viewers join a journey to far away places to witness some astonishing ceremonies. In a visit to Papua, New Guinea, a boy undergoes carving of his skin in attempts to replicate the skin of a crocodile.
