Andlau is a commune in the Bas-Rhin department in Alsace in north-eastern France.

The village owes its origin to Andlau Abbey which was founded in AD 880 by Richardis, the Empress of Charles the Fat.[1] Andlau has been a wine growing center and traveler destination since its earliest days.

Sights

Andlau is famous for its former collegiate church, now parish church, Saints-Pierre-et-Paul. The originally 11th and twelfth century church, which was largely rebuilt in the 17th century, still displays numerous remains of Romanesque architecture and sculpture.

Two castles are found in the immediate vicinity. The Château d'Andlau was built in Andlau from 1246 and 1264. The Château de Spesbourg, located in the hills immediately above Andlau, was built between 1246 and 1250.

Twin town

Andlau is twinned with the village of Sexau, in Germany, since 1981.
