Photography Encyclopedia:

Andor Kraszna-Krausz

Kraszna-Krausz, Andor (1904-89), Hungarian-born writer on film and photography, and major photographic publisher. After working in Germany as a film critic, and editing the journal Filmtechnik (1926-36), he emigrated to England in 1937. In 1938 he founded Focal Press, using it to enlighten amateurs and demystify photographic technology. It prospered with many times reissued classics like The All-in-One Camera Book and The Focal Encyclopaedia of Photography, and monographs on Victorian photographers. Later it also embraced cinematography and television, producing many handbooks for professionals. The Kraszna-Krausz Foundation, established in 1983, encourages work in the visual media.
