Andrea Mead Canning is a Canadian news reporter, who has been a correspondent for ABC News since 2004. Her public profile was elevated considerably after she interviewed actor Charlie Sheen for 20/20 on February 28, 2011.[1] The interview was subsequently used as the basis for a viral video that received more than 10 million views during its first 9 days on YouTube.[2]
Her earlier assignments included work for WCPO-TV in Cincinnati as a reporter and co-anchor of the evening newscast. From 1999 to 2001 Canning worked for WPTV-TV in West Palm Beach, Florida and from 1997 to 1999 was a reporter and anchor for CKVR-TV in Barrie, Ontario.[3]
Reared in Collingwood, Ontario, Canning discovered that she "liked being on-camera," while a Radio & Television Arts student at Ryerson University in Toronto.[1] She graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1994.[4]
Canning has two daughters and is married to Tony Bancroft, a US Marine Corps pilot. They are now based in New York City. Andrea gave birth to daughter Charlotte Brewster Bancroft on May 19, 2010. They have another daughter Anna Katherine born in March 2009.[1]
Ms. Canning announced on GMA, that she and her husband are expecting another daughter in July 2012.
