Biography
A classically trained cellist and former session vocalist, Andrea Parker's brilliant darkside electro-techno productions for Mo' Wax, R&S and Sabrettes displayed an artist with impeccable programming skills but also an increasing desire to integrate her own training into the mix. She began recording on her own early in the 1990s, and became a DJ by 1993. One year later, she began collaborating with David Morley, first for Infonet Records on the Angular Art EP, then for R&S on the Too Good to Be Strange EP (the former appeared under Morley's name, the latter as Two Sandwiches Short of a Lunchbox). Morley contributed engineering to Parker's 1996 solo debut for Mo' Wax, the 40-minute EP Melodious Thunk. Her second EP for Mo' Wax, Rocking Chair, featured London's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra alongside sampled beats and effects. She also remixed Depeche Mode, Lamb, the Orb, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Steve Reich before beginning work on her actual debut full-length, Kiss My ARP. In the meantime, she contributed a volume in Studio !K7's DJ Kicks series in 1998. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
Andrea Parker is a British electronic musicproducer and DJ from Yalding, Kent. Despite having a background in cello playing, Parker was heavily influenced by electronic pioneers such as Art Of Noise and Jean Michel Jarre[1]. She formed the group Inky Blacknuss with producers Alex Knight and Ian Tregoning in 1993 for Andrew Weatherall's Sabrettes label, before signing to legendary hip hop label Mo' Wax for her solo output, releasing her debut album Kiss My Arp (a reference to the vintage ARPsynthesisers) in 1999. Electronic Music Producer David Morley was an important part of her musical output as co-writer and almost all her studio work took place in his studio in Germany (now Belgium)
In 2002 Parker formed the Touchin' Bass imprint after spliting from Mo' Wax, citing problems with the label's management merger, and the subsequent hold up in releasing any of her further projects[1]. With her long-time production partner David Morley, her output became rooted in a darker, less organic sound than her work with Mo' Wax. Her output referenced classic electro music from the 1980s, relying heavily on the use of drum machines such as the Roland TR-808, as well as electro's Miami Bass connection by collaborating with DJ Assault and DJ Godfather on her Freaky Bitches 12".
A retrospective called Here's One I Made Earlier... (a reference to the British television show Blue Peter) was released in 2007. These tracks were mainly composed by both Andrea Parker & David Morley.
