(b Kiedrich im Rheingau, 1967). Ger. counter‐tenor. Joined Kiedricher Chorbuben aged 7. At 13 sang Second Boy in Zauberflöte at Wiesbaden. Studied in Basle at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Richard Levitt and René Jacobs, later with Evelyn Tubb and Anthony Rooley. Prof. début Paris 1993 (St John Passion). Many recordings of baroque mus. Glyndebourne début 1998 (Bertarido in Handel's Rodelinda). Title‐role in Handel's Giulio Cesare, Copenhagen 2002. First counter‐tenor to sing solo at Last Night of the Proms, London 2005.
