Andriambahomanana

(African mythology)

In Madagascan mythology, the first man. When god saw that Andriambahomanana and his wife, Andriamahilala, had many children, and even grandchildren, he asked them what kind of death they wanted. The first man chose to die like a banana plant, which soon puts forth shoots anew, while the first woman was sent to the moon, where she dies every month, to be born again the following month.
