Biography

He is not the same Andy Brown as three other British bassists with the same name. Considering the nature of the Rutles, the theory that in this case there was no such person as Andy Brown deserves at least passing attention, although it apparently has no basis in fact. While satirizing the British rock scene, however, coming up with a fake name that would sound just like a typical British bassist would have only one possible outcome: Andy Brown. Despite the chuckles inherent in that scenario, there was actually a real Andy Brown who played bass with the Rutles on the group's 1978 debut.
