Andy Johnson is an artist best known for designing the record sleeves of The The in the 1980s and 1990s which were produced under the pseudonym Andy Dog. His work has a very distinctive style and often features tortured, grimacing figures coupled with dark, sad themes.
He trained at Camberwell School of Art where he was taught by Charles Keeping and Sir Peter Woodcock. He has contributed to many underground comics and magazines, also working for the music press. He was responsible for establishing the visual identity of the Some Bizzare record label.
As a child he worked early with Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop at the Theatre Royal in Stratford, London. In the late '70s, he fronted post-punk outfit Camera 3 and played alongside Crass.
Johnson is the older brother of The The's Matt Johnson. Currently, he lives and works as an artist in East Anglia.
He currently lives in Lavenham, Suffolk.
