Andy McDermott is a British thriller author, and former journalist, magazine editor and film critic.
To date, McDermott's books have all featured the same two lead characters: Dr Nina Wilde, a young American archaeologist, the later finder of Atlantis, El Dorado and many more. With time she becomes the head of the International Heritage Agency, which is established in the purpose of securing precious artefacts. And Eddie Chase, a former British SAS soldier initially hired as her bodyguard, who later develops a personal relationship with her. In books 2-7 he's not her bodyguard anymore, yet he always works his way out to protect her. Throughout the books there are also more side characters. The most important one is Jim McCrimmon aka Mac. He was in the SAS with Eddie and was his boss. He later appears in the books (introduced in The Tomb Of Hercules) as the closest friend of Eddie's and Nina's. The last novel he's in is the Empire of Gold, in which he is killed. The second most important side character is Macy Sharif, who first appears in The Cult of Osiris, who's a young archeology student. She's described as stunningly beautiful therefore in some cases in the books she uses her beauty as part of negotiations if they're needed. And there is also Matt Trulli who is an Australian oceans specialist. He sometimes appears in the books as a person who helps Nina and Eddie get out of trouble. The help given by him is mostly in the water (as he helps them using submarines, boats etc. of own making or design).
There are certain enemies which also appear in many books of the series. Lady Sophia Blackwood, Eddie's first wife appears in almost every book. She has a habit of teaming up with whichever group is going for world domination (in which Eddie and Nina try and stop). She also has a nasty habit of backstabbing everyone, and being a truly independent enemy.
In books 7 and 8 Alexander Stikes is introduced. He was Eddie's commander in the SAS for a period of time, and is a ruthless power hungry mercenary.
