Irish singer/songwriter Andy White is best known to American audiences as one-third of ALT, along with the Hothouse Flowers' Liam O'Maonlai and ex-Split Enz leader Tim Finn. However, White has been recording since 1986, even if his albums just began to find American release in the mid-'90s. His debut, Rave On, was a political protest album in the vein of Bob Dylan, addressing problems in Ireland and his native Belfast. White followed it with Kiss the Big Stone in 1988 before leaving London Records. Himself appeared in 1990 and was followed by Out There in 1992. 1994's Destination Beautiful was his first album to be released in America, in the wake of ALT's 1995 album and tour. In 1997, Cooking Vinyl released Teenage in America. ~ Steve Huey, Rovi
