Angelo Gordon & Company is a private equity firm focused on making distressed investments and a hedge fund sponsor. Within its hedge fund activities, Angelo Gordon focuses on a number of alternative investment strategies.

The firm is headquartered in New York City and has offices in Beverly Hills, California, London, Hong Kong, Seoul and Oak Brook, Illinois.

The firm was founded in 1988 by John M. Angelo and Michael L. Gordon. Prior to the founding of Angelo Gordon, the two co-founders ran the arbitrage department of L.F. Rothschild in the 1980s.[1]

In recent news reports Angelo Gordon & Co is the lead secured creditor in several newspaper bankruptcies including that of Tribune Co., Philadelphia Newspapers and The Star Tribune in Minneapolis. [2] [3] The company was selected by the U.S. government to participate in the Public Private Investment Program, under which the government will back investment managers' purchases of toxic assets from banks.
