Review

Raphael's prior album Music to Disappear In II is a mellow, deeply ambient piece of work that manages to mesmerize and stimulate at the same time, wonderful stuff for meditation. Angels of the Deep follows the pattern too, this time taking the deep focus and painting in both an oceanic theme and an angelic theme, which means not only the slow, drifting musical pulse with the deep environment to it, but also subtly-incorporated whale sounds. It's a wonderful piece of work, sleepily sensuous, an album for lying down with the lights out and the brain glowing with light. The pieces themselves are generally long and winding, never jarring in entrance or exit, making this delightfully organic. Put it on and think of the stars over ocean and prepare to be carried off. ~ Steven McDonald, Rovi
