Angie Bolen

Angie Bolen, portrayed by Drea de Matteo, is a fictional character in the American television series Desperate Housewives. Marc Cherry told Entertainment Weekly that this new character will be the focus of the 2009-10 season's "mystery," describing her as "a tough Italian woman... running from something."^[1]

Season 6

In the season premiere, Angie buys the Young House with her husband, Nick, and son, Danny. She is introduced to the housewives of Wisteria Lane and is invited to the second wedding of Susan Mayer and Mike Delfino. When back home, she is worried about her son since he disappeared after the wedding. She sends Nick out to look for him. She unzips her dress and a large burn or scar is seen on her lower back. Later, people begin to suspect Danny of being behind the strangulation of Julie Mayer. Angie tries to find an alibi, and turns to Ana Solis, who provides one. The alibi is later found to be false. Karen McCluskey reveals that she saw Danny and Julie arguing a few days before she was attacked. Angie and Nick, with the rest of the neighborhood, watch as Danny is taken away by the police. Susan then wages war on the family. Death threats and vandalism are then thrusted upon the family after Susan spreads the word that Danny is the attacker, with no proof. Angie apologizes to Danny, saying that she is sorry about his childhood. She said that if it wasn't for her, he could have had a normal childhood. It is also hinted that "Angie" and "Nick" are not their real names. While Danny is fixing his friend's car, Susan comes over and starts moving the car jack down to squish Danny. She almost killed him, but Angie came out with a baseball bat and threatens to kill her if she doesn't leave Danny alone. It is then proven that Danny is innocent thanks to a videotape at a liquor store that placed him there at the time of the attack. Susan, guilt ridden, goes to help Angie clean up her front yard after it is trashed and spray-painted. The two then reconcile. Angie later reveals that her scar is the result of an explosion. She said that her husband stayed with her after the explosion and he is a good man. It is then revealed that Nick was having an affair with Julie before she was attacked. Danny seems to know about the affair but he doesn't tell his mother about it.

When Susan accidentally shoots Katherine Mayfair, Danny reveals to his parents that he gave Julie the gun to protect herself if she got attacked again. Nick tells Danny that the gun is registered under their real names. Angie manipulates Katherine into not calling the police. She tells her that Susan's husband Mike, is still hung up on her and that if she stays quiet, she'll look like a "saint" while Susan looks like a "monster." Meanwhile Nick steals the gun back. One day, Katherine walks in on Angie crying over a photo. Angie tells her it's her mom and that she's dead. A few days later Katherine overhears Angie talking to her mother on the phone. Angie lies and tells her it was her mother-in-law, but Katherine is suspicious because Angie said something in Italian. Angie goes over to Susan's and tells her that Katherine is dangerous and that they need to get her off the streets. She plants the idea in Susan's head that Katherine might have strangled Julie. Angie and Nick invite Bree and Orson over for dinner but get into a fight over Angie working for Bree. After Bree almost loses a couple who would bring in a lot of money, Bree pretends to be Italian to get the job. She tricks Angie into giving her the recipes. Angie is furious when she discovers Bree's deception. Bree and Angie later reconcile with Angie agreeing to join her company. The cops call the Bolen house after Lynette tells them about Julie and Nick's affair. Angie lies and tells the police that Nick was with her the night that Julie was attacked, but tells Nick that she has known about his affair with Julie for weeks and she punches him in the face. She tells him that neither can leave, so now they're even. Angie confronts Julie in a cafe and tells her that she knows Julie has been sleeping with her husband. She tells Julie not to make small talk and "when you see the wife of the guy you banged, you avert your gaze and blush." Then Angie makes Julie pay for her coffee since "she owes her." Angie, after seeing Nick flirt with another woman, tells him that she wants him to be the guy that he used to be, the one that saved her life, not the one that he is now. Angie saves Bree from being caught because while in bed with Karl, Orson comes home because he thinks that Bree is having an affair. Angie sees all this and decides to call Bree to warn her. She comes upstairs with the other glass of wine, pretending that she was having a visit with Bree.

After the girl working at the coffee shop is strangled to death the Bolens start thinking about moving. Nick tells Angie he was the last costumer at the coffee shop before the girl was killed. Angie is worried that the police might question Nick when they find out about it. Nick also tells her that he called the FBI and is thinking about coming in. Danny walks in on them fighting and it is revealed that Angie killed a man. Danny goes to his room and tries to commit suicide. At the hospital Mona is taking care of Danny who reveals to her that his real name is Tyler. Mona tries to find out more about the Bolens and Danny, thinking she knows everything, tells her Angie was part of a terrorist group. Mona decides to blackmail Angie with this info. Angie gives her money just before a plane crashes into the street and kills Mona.

Trivia

• Angie Bolen was originally going to be named Sara Vitale. This name was later change for Angie Bolen. A couple of Italians appeared on the episode "Careful the Things You Say", with their last name being Vitale.
