angle of release

Sports Science and Medicine: angle of release

angle of projection; angle of take-off

The angle, relative to the ground, at which a body is projected into the air. The angle of release is an important factor affecting the flight path of a projectile. For any given speed of release, the angle of release which produces maximum horizontal displacement is 45°, assuming a constant relative projection height, and that there is no spin or air resistance. In sport, the best angles of release are usually between 35 and 45° because of aerodynamic effects.
