Angus MacDonald was elected a Scottish National Party Councillor to Falkirk Council on 16 December 2004, with 56% of the vote. A former Falkirk District Councillor and Justice of the Peace from 1992 until 1996, he served on various committees in his role as a councillor include Economic Strategy & Development, Education, Housing & Social Care, Investment, Planning, Grangemouth Common Good Fund and Grangemouth Area Forum until standing down to concentrate on his position as Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Falkirk East. He was elected to serve the Falkirk East consituency, gaining over 50% of the vote, ousting Cathy Peattie who had been the MSP since 1999. At the Scottosh Parliament he is a Member of the Economy, Energy & Tourism Committee, the Public Petitions Committee, the Scottish Commission for Public Audit and the Cross Party Group on Gaelic.

Angus was educated at Grangemouth High School, Keil School, the College of Estate Management and the Centre for Industrial Studies

Work and politics

Angus is the MSP for Falkirk East at the Scottish Parliament. He has served as a Governor of the Stirlingshire Educational Trust and Convener of An Comunn Gaidhealach (Falkirk Branch). In addition he was Chairman of the Mod 2008 Falkirk organising committee, co-ordinating plans for the Royal National Mod which was held in Falkirk district in October 2008. He was re-elected to Falkirk Council at the local elections held on 3 May 2007, which was run using the single transferrable vote system for the first time in Scotland, gaining the most first preference votes of any Grangemouth candidate. Angus stood down from Falkirk Council on 2nd May 2012 to concentrate on his work in the Scottish Parliament, to which he was elected on 5th May 2011.
