Angus South is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament (Holyrood). It elects one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the first past the post method of election. In addition, it is one of nine constituencies in the North East Scotland electoral region, which elects seven additional members, in addition to nine constituency MSPs, to produce a form of proportional representation for the region as a whole.

The other nine constituencies of the North East Scotland region are Aberdeen Central, Aberdeen Donside, Aberdeen South and North Kincardine, Aberdeenshire East, Aberdeenshire West, Angus North and Mearns, Banffshire and Buchan Coast, Dundee City East and Dundee City West.

The region covers the Aberdeenshire council area, the Aberdeen City council area, the Dundee City council area, part of the Angus council area, a small part of the Moray council area and a small part of the Perth and Kinross council area.

Constituency boundaries and council areas

The Angus constituency was created at the same time as the Scottish Parliament, in 1999, with the same name and boundaries as the then-existing Westminster constituency. In 2005, however, the boundaries of the Westminster (House of Commons) constituency, as with all other Westminster constituencies in Scotland, were subject to major alterations.

Following the First Periodic Review of constituencies for the Scottish Parliament, the old Angus seat was expanded and split into two newly drawn constituencies for the 2011 election. These are Angus North and Mearns, and Angus South.

The electoral wards used in the creation of Angus South are;
