Synopsis

This program centers on hypothetical battles between two animals that could meet in the wild, or, in some cases, have been compared to each other by scientists. CGI replicas and models were used to collect data (such as strength, bite force, etc.) about the animals. Then, in a virtual arena, a brief computer-animated fight scene reveals the results. Some people have declared this show similar to the hit Spike TV show Deadliest Warrior. Since the fight done artificially, results in real life may vary. Each episode of Animal Face-Off is 1 hour long, with the exception of the 12th episode, which is 2 hours long.

Episode list

Episode Animals Location Winner Recap
1 Great White Shark vs. Saltwater Crocodile Northern Australian Coast Great White Shark The shark is looking for food. It hits the crocodile with the bump-and-bite technique. It then tries to attack. The crocodile bites the shark's tail, but cannot get a good grip. The shark swims away and goes back for a full-on assault, but the crocodile strikes first by biting on the shark's pectoral fin and then performing a death roll, tearing off the shark's fin. Despite the injury, the shark is still fast and strong. Then, both animals collide head on, and the crocodile clamps onto the shark's snout. The shark cannot fight back, and the crocodile attempts another death roll. Both combatants sink. Running out of air, the crocodile breaks off the attack and heads to the surface to breathe, which allows the shark to bite the crocodile's belly.
2 African Elephant vs. White Rhinoceros Serengeti African Elephant The elephant is looking for food, but the rhinoceros sees it as a threat. The rhinoceros attacks the elephant with its charge and thrust, but the much smarter elephant charges as well and dodges the attack. The rhinoceros then tries to stab the elephant's throat, but the elephant is too tall for the rhinoceros' 4-foot horn. The rhinoceros tries an agile headbutt, but the elephant defends its head and face with its trunk and tusks. The elephant then attacks by stabbing the rhinoceros with its tusks twice (breaking a tusk in the process), topples the rhinoceros over with its tusks, and crushes it under its weight. The elephant then steps off and trumpets in victory.
3 Asiatic Lion vs. Bengal Tiger India Asiatic Lion The tiger is eating its kill. The lion comes to a stop several meters away from the tiger and roars loudly. It runs and tackles the tiger, but trips on the big cat and injures and tires himself. The agile tiger quickly gets up and repeatedly tries to bite the lion's throat ferociously, but the lion shakes off the attacks. The lion gets up and both combatants back away from each other and roar. They scratch each others' faces fiercely. The tiger swoops in to end the fight quickly with a neck bite, but the lion's mane deflects its aim. The tiger backs away and then tackles the lion, but the lion reacts by biting the tiger's throat, killing it. The lion then walks a short distance, then roars in victory.
4 Hippopotamus vs. Bull Shark Zambezi River Hippopotamus The hippopotamus has a wound, and the smell of blood attracts the bull shark. The bull shark hits the hippopotamus with its bump-and-bite technique, startling the hippopotamus and causing it to thrash in fear. After confirming the hippopotamus is food, the bull shark tries to attack by biting the hippopotamus' body and stomach as hard as it can. The hippopotamus' thick hide combined with its enormous girth is too much of a mouthful for the much smaller shark. Even the thin skin on the back leg proves too tough for the shark. However, the bull shark manages to bite off the hippopotamus' tail. Badly hurt, the hippopotamus still does not know what hit it, but the very painful attack rouses its bad temper. The hippopotamus counterattacks by putting its huge head into the water, its enormous jaws easily encircling the shark. The hippopotamus closes its mouth, crushing the shark's head and killing it.[2]
5 Gray Wolf vs. Cougar Rocky Mountains Cougar The wolf is busy eating its dinner. A cougar smells meat from a long distance and investigates. The cougar comes across the wolf eating and thinks about trying to steal the food, but knows it cannot win once the wolf calls for reinforcements. The wolf notices it and growls. The cougar counters with the same technique, crouching and growling. Feeling its meal threatened, the wolf responds by charging forward and ferociously bites the cougar's back leg, but backs off when the cougar pounces on it with its front legs and lethal claws. Low on stamina, the cougar tries to flee, but the wolf continues the fight. The wolf howls loudly, clearly calling for help from its friends, bites the cougar on the forepaw, then pins it, but the cougar shakes off the attack. The cougar shoves the wolf in the air with its front and back paws, and then kills it with a bite to the neck. The cougar sniffs the carcass, then hears the wolf pack approaching and flees.
6 Walrus vs. Polar Bear Arctic Circle Walrus The bear tries to bite and scratch the walrus, but the walrus's skin is too thick. Although it manages to briefly latch on with teeth, the polar bear cannot do serious damage. As the walrus flees, the polar bear gets dragged into the water, and the walrus gores the bear with its tusks. The bear attempts to flee, but the walrus kills the bear by driving its tusks into the carnivore's back.
7 Siberian Brown Bear vs. Siberian Tiger Russia Siberian Brown Bear The bear attempts to steal the tiger's kill. The tiger then attacks the bear, but the bear is able to deflect each strike. The tiger tries to go for the jugular, but fails. Then the tiger jumps up on the bear from behind and latches on with its claws, cutting deep. Despite the tiger's persistent attacks, the bear's thick fur and fat, combined with its enormous girth, are too much for the tiger. The bear finishes the fight by breaking the tiger's back and biting it on the neck.
8 African Lion vs. Nile Crocodile Kenya Nile Crocodile The lion is by the river's edge when a crocodile goes out of the water, intent on stealing the lion's meat. The lion roars at the crocodile to back off but the crocodile responds by hissing loudly. The lion attacks but cannot land a deadly blow on the Nile Crocodile because of the crocodile's thick armor. The lion then tries to flip the crocodile to reach the crocodile's unarmored belly, but the crocodile counters with a powerful tail swipe. The lion dodges the tail swipe but the distraction allows the crocodile to retreat into the water. The lion stays at the water's edge, wondering where the crocodile goes. The crocodile suddenly erupts out the water and before the lion can react, the crocodile clamp onto the cat's neck. A death roll from the crocodile kills the lion by breaking its neck.
9 Green Anaconda vs. Jaguar Amazon River Green Anaconda The green anaconda strikes rapidly from beneath the water, wrapping itself around the jaguar and clamping its coils over its head. Both mammal and reptile sink underwater. The big cat gets away by biting the snake's tail and cutting it with its sharp claws. Hurt and bleeding, the reptile attempts to flee, but the jaguar fishes the snake out of the water. Then the anaconda makes a sudden counterattack, grabbing the big cat's head and coiling around it again. The jaguar is too tired from the battle to fight back and is killed.
10 Mountain Gorilla vs. African Leopard Congo River Mountain Gorilla The gorilla tries to avoid a fight, but the leopard does not back off. The leopard's night vision and stealth gives it the upper hand, but the gorilla wrestles it off and bites the leopard's shoulder. When the final lunge comes, the gorilla delivers a fatal blow with its arm.
11 American Black Bear vs. American Alligator Everglades American Black Bear The bear is drinking from a swamp on a hot Florida day. Suddenly, an alligator erupts out of the water, startling the bear. The alligator bites the bear's leg, leaving a wound. However, it only bites fur, fat, and muscle. The bear fights back. The alligator tries to do a tail swipe, but the bear dodges it. Running out of energy and at a disadvantage on land, the alligator tries to retreat into the water, but the bear stops it. The alligator tries to roll away but gets stuck on its back and the bear pins it. The bear scratches deep into the alligator's soft underbelly, fatally wounding it and the bear walks away.
12 Sperm Whale vs. Colossal Squid Antarctic Ocean Sperm Whale The combatants both sense each other: the squid sees the whale, while the whale's echolocation reveals the location of the squid. The whale tries to eat the squid, but just before it reaches the mouth, the squid attacks. By rising close to the surface, the squid is shaken off, but not before it scratches the whale. Now it is no contest: the whale amplifies its sonar and the squid is paralyzed by it and eaten alive.
