Animax Eastern Europe is Japanese anime television network Animax's networks in Eastern Europe, including Hungary, Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and soon in Poland. It replaced the A+ network in these countries except Poland on April 11, 2007. This was Animax's first major expansion to Europe.[1][2][3] Its current programs are available either dubbed in the local languages of each country, or in Japanese audio with local subtitles.

History

A+ (also known as Anime+, /+ or Anime Plusz) was originally launched in December 4, 2004, and was broadcast in Hungary, Romania, the Czech Republic and Slovakia either via cable or satellite TV systems. It was acquired by Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI) in October 2006. All programs prior to this acquisition were dubbed in the local languages.

In 2008 Animax Eastern Europe is reported to launched the channel in Poland and will distributed in the country by HBO Poland (Co-owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment) and run by Animax Eastern Europe but due to delay in deal with the local cable providers and DTH providers, the launch of the channel is delayed to 2nd half of 2009.[4]

Animax CE is the first 24-hour anime television network launched in the region. It was announced on April on the Official Japanese Website of 2009 Fullmetal Alchemist about the show's expansion in 23 European countries were Animax Eastern Europe will broadcast the New Fullmetal Alchemist 2009 series under the international title, "Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood" in Hungary, Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland starting this June/July, however local schedules are yet to released.[5] Animax CE has announced that it will first premiere the local language subbed version on its websites and later dubbed versions on the channel.

Animax is the only[citation needed] channel in Central Europe to broadcast all top rated Anime series including Naruto, Bleach, YuYu Hakusho, Fullmetal Alchemist, etc along with several others such as Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Detective Conan, Digimon series, Dinosaur King, etc also soon premiering Dragonball GT , Soul Eater, Romeo x Juliet, D.Gray-man and several others.
